International Medieval Congress (IMC), Leeds, 13-16 July 2009. Conference Paper: 'Establishing trust or exerting control? Medical licensing and orthodox practice'.

This paper was presented at one of two sessions organized by I. McCleery on the theme of Medical Orthodoxy at the IMC this year. Other papers (by speakers from the Universities of Cambridge, Manchester, Leeds and Arizona State) covered issues to do with expertise, learning and authority in medieval medicine. The sessions formed part of the IMC special thematic strand: 'Heresy and Orthodoxy'.
